REPROGRAMMING THE THREE CHIMNEYS

This study, commissioned by the Besòs Consortium, offers a renewed perspective on the future of the Three Chimneys, proposing an open and flexible system capable of supporting multiple reactivation scenarios, and moving away from closed solutions based solely on functional programming.

The proposal is based on a set of core strategies that frame the intervention around landscape and heritage value, the early incorporation of eco-efficiency principles, constructive and programmatic flexibility, the reconnection between local and metropolitan scales, and a new relationship between public space and industrial heritage.

Rather than assigning a fixed use, the project seeks to reprogram the chimneys as a cultural and urban infrastructure—open-ended, phaseable, and adaptable over time

The study anticipates a built surface of 22,645 m² and an estimated budget of €45.9 million, incorporating steel structures and CLT slabs as part of its structural strategy.
