Renovation of a 90 m² apartment in the Raval neighborhood, Barcelona. This is a dwelling on the main floor of a 19th-century building that was in an advanced state of deterioration, subdivided into small rooms with no natural light. The main strategy was the removal of some partition elements while maintaining the possibility of compartmentalization at certain moments. The apartment functions simultaneously as a single continuous space and as a sequence of rooms that retain the memory of the former partitioning. In addition to this strategy of not renouncing memory, the recovery of certain materials and construction elements generates another sequence, this time temporal. In this reconstruction of time, dislocation and strangeness were employed by placing or repurposing materials in places where they originally didn’t belong. The intention was to highlight the emergence of new textures beneath coverings and prints, as this was to be a home with a high level of accumulation of books, objects, and souvenirs.
